A woman, we’ll call Hilda, dials 911. When the paramedics arrive, they decide she needs to be taken to the hospital.  The neighbor helps find her driver’s license and social security card for admitting records.  Hilda isn’t able to speak any more when she arrives at the hospital.  After being admitted as a “Jane Doe”, her husband and neighbor arrive at the hospital.

National Women Physicians Day - Sponsored by Physician Moms Group (PMG)
03 Feb

Physician Moms Group (PMG) has declared February 3rd as the first annual National Women Physicians Day. The non-profit organization did so in an effort to bring awareness and appreciation to women in the field of medicine. The date of new celebration was not selected at chance, but rather to honor a strong female that has made significant contributions to the healthcare industry.

Healthcare issues & trends to be aware of in 2016
13 Jan

With each New Year come new trends. While I find it a must to follow all new fashion trends, it is even more important to follow healthcare trends. These trends not only affect consumers, but also employers and insurers. Like fashion trends, healthcare trends can affect everyone’s day-to-day life.

Scrubs: Unisex is out & style is in
Healthcare today is changing at a rapid pace. Not only is it changing in the way we receive and administer patient care and a focus on the patient as a consumer, but also in the type of uniforms being requested by today’s healthcare employees.

Why are millennials avoiding their doctors?
16 Dec

“The doctor would like to see you in a year, would you like to schedule your next appointment now?”  This is the line you probably are used to hearing as you try to exit your doctor’s office.  At this moment a million things run through my mind - where will I be in a year?  Will I still be living locally?  Will I have the same insurance policy?  How can they expect me to know when I am going to available be next year when I have a hard enough time committing to weekend plans?

TBT: Designing a scrub catalog
19 Nov

Last week we had the opportunity to do an on-site photo shoot at a hospital in Saint Petersburg. It’s always exciting to be on a photo shoot set, especially one like this where we are in an active environment. Doctors, nurses and ancillary staff kept passing by to take a peek, share their own stories and naturally, to talk about healthcare uniforms.

Here are a few behind the scenes shots from our on-site photo shoot:

Finding balance: Retail clinic vs. primary care
11 Nov

An increasing number of retail grocery chains and pharmacies that offer clinic services are making it easier for consumers to get medical care to meet their schedules. From posting pricing for various medical services upfront to extended hours, many consumers are forgoing their regular doctor for routine immunizations, physicals and urgent sick visits for retail health clinics. But what, if any, are the drawbacks to this type of care?

Earlier this week the International Association for Healthcare Textile Management (IAHTM) hosted their Annual Member Meeting and Education Conference in our own backyard of Clearwater, Florida. I was lucky enough to sneak away from the office for a bit to attend the panel discussion “Where is Our Industry Going? (Textiles, Equipment and Chemicals)” featuring Norbert Gittard, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Jensen USA, Jason Lang, Director of RD&E for Ecolab and our very own President, Alan Schwartz.

I received a call from one of our salesmen the other day.  He asked, “Do we make any ugly scrubs for any of our customers?”

“Say again.”

I’ve been working in the customer service department for over 14 years, and it seems like there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t learn something new.

This week, we're picking back up on the rapidly emerging industry of RFID Technology. As I had mentioned in last month's blog post, the amount of advantages to using this technology is unbeatable.
