Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!
22 Dec

With the holiday season in full force, the An Apple A Day team decided to slow down and reflect on our favorite holiday traditions…….

New Year's Resolutions Check List
17 Dec

Each year around this time, I look back on the year and reflect on what I accomplished and what I want to accomplish in the New Year.  As I have gotten older, I thought time would slow down and I would be able to catch my breath to do the things I really want to do.  Well, that theory has come and gone...  What I have discovered is if I don't schedule the time to do the things I really want to do; weeks, months and years go by in a flash!

Giving blood, saving lives: How donations help more than the recipient
01 Dec

For 28 years, we’ve hosted quarterly blood drives at the Fashion Seal Healthcare corporate headquarters in Seminole, FL. I’m proud to report that our employees have collectively donated enough blood to support nearly 250 open heart surgeries. But giving blood isn’t just good for the patient -- according to studies published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, blood donors are 88% less likely to suffer a heart attack and 33% less likely to suffer any type of cardiovascular event.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!
24 Nov

As Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for feasting and reflection, the An Apple A Day Team each reflected on what they are thankful for this holiday season…

I am thankful for my growing family with the addition of our dogs Gracie and Noah. While they might drive my husband and me crazy with their occasional shoe chewing and counter surfing, our house would not be a home without them!Amy Henry

Children today are not like they used to be – and I’m not referring to their ever-evolving vocabulary or their selection of music and clothing. They live a very different lifestyle than those in the past with less physical activity and poor food choices having a direct effect on their health. Just how drastically have children’s health and habits changed? The proof is in the pudding!*

Is another industry finding the Affordable Care Act hard to digest?
12 Nov

Since the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was introduced in 2010, the national health law has made major impacts on the healthcare industry.  We’ve seen an intensified emphasis on the patient experience and Medicare reimbursements due to the HCAHPS, a higher demand for healthcare employees and a projected increase of health insurance coverage to more than 12 million people.*

What sort of leadership does the nursing profession need? The discussion of transactional vs. transformational leadership is part of any Industrial/Organizational Psychology curriculum.  Translated to a practical application, transformational leadership (which is based on engagement between the leaders and followers) is a highly effective strategy for improving workplace satisfaction, promoting a positive attitude and reducing nursing staff turnover.  It works especially well in what can be a complex, high-stress environment such as healthcare.*

Adult Day Care Centers
05 Nov

Years ago, I was talking to my neighbor and said there should be day care centers for adults - she thought I was nuts!  Fast forward a few years and according to the National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA) there are over 4,600 day care centers for adults.  These centers are great for adults who need supervised care in a safe environment outside of the home.  Adult day care centers often have nurses experienced in dealing with dementia, diabetes, high blood pressure and other aging issues and provide social activities to keep the participants engaged.

Old wives tales, we have all heard them. Someone, we know and love, is convinced they know the cure and/or cause of the common health problem because that is what their great, great grandfather or grandmother told them. Are these old wives tales true? Is there any science or merit to them?

True or False:   You will catch a cold going outside with wet hair.

Apparel by Fashion Seal Healthcare®
27 Oct

The Pantone Fashion Color Report for Fall 2014 included Aluminum, describing it as a “futuristic stainless steel shade that serves as a complex neutral.”  A quick search of Pinterest reveals a host of boards featuring this “complex neutral” as the new white. Ignoring any 50 Shades of Grey references, the grey color family invokes a cosmopolitan, city-sidewalk, industrial chic vibe.
