Scrub Catalog by Fashion Seal Healthcare

Welcome to the series “How to make a scrub catalog” Part 1. I started this series somewhat backwards with my behind the scenes access to our scrub catalog photo shoot, but never fear I will take you back to where it all started. I think you will be truly amazed at the process of creating a new catalog.

Developing a new healthcare catalog involves many departments within the company, including:

  • Design
  • Marketing
  • Business development
  • Inventory management
  • Fabric team – also known as piece goods
  • Sales team
  • Focus groups with current & potential customers
  • Executive management


When we start the planning process, a kick-off meeting is scheduled to discuss the key initiatives for the catalog. This is one of many meetings that will occur through-out the process with the stakeholders mentioned above. Some of the key initiatives include:

  • Launch date
  • Styles – new & discontinued
  • Trends
  • Layout
  • Photo shoots


Within my department, Design, we research fabrics, color trends and new styles to develop. Marketing looks at what’s trending in the healthcare market and how we can utilize this to best serve our customers. We set-up calls with our sales team to discuss what they are seeing and hearing in the market place since they are our eyes and ears on the street. Customer focus groups are also developed to ensure we are addressing the needs of our customer’s.

After the initial meetings are held and the key initiatives are discussed, our Design Department creates a “story board” for inspiration to assist in creating the look and feel of the overall catalog. When it comes to our healthcare catalogs, generally we have a more finite direction on the design since we will be working with many existing styles and incorporating new styles and colors discovered through our research.

As you can see, there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen when putting together a healthcare catalog. Needless to say, there are some very heated discussions on what direction we should go and what the look and feel of the catalog should be.

Once the direction is clear the fun begins….
