The Ever Changing World of Healthcare

The Ever Changing World of Healthcare

I recently visited a Doctor’s office that for years had been independently owned and operated by a group of physicians. They were recently acquired by a very large hospital in Ohio. The changes were quite radical and it took quite a while for the staff to get acclimated with the new computer system and all of the new procedures that this hospital implemented. Of course this is to be expected when changes are made in protocol and systems that the staff had been used to and used for years prior. The same could be said with any changes that affect a job or a schedule that we are used to.

Changes seem to be more and more prevalent in the world of healthcare now more than ever before.  From changes to insurance, to how a doctor treats each patient, the changes are real and they are important in how each hospital, surgical center and long term health facility does business, not only internally but externally as well.

Along with these changes comes departmental attire. I asked the nurses what they were wearing as far as scrubs are concerned prior to the merger. The informed me that they would just go out and buy their own. Now with the changes from their new corporate, they are each distributed three sets per nurse and they are all color coded to recognize and separate each department. This is going to be more and more the way these hospitals go about making their facilities a more professional and accommodating place to stay.
